MARE CARE

Your mare should be drenched either immediately prior to arrival or I can arrange for her to be drenched on presentation at the Kerranna. She should also be up-to-date with her tetanus shots (I use the double tetanus/strangles vaccine but am assured by my vet that tetanus is sufficient). I can arrange for attention to her teeth and hoof care at, if required.

Your mare will be scanned on arrival to determine her uterine health and where she is in her cycle. Issues relating to uterine health, unless major, will be dealt with at once. Once your mare has been served she will be rescanned at approximately 16 days to see if she is pregnant.  Your mare will then be available for pick-up. If she remains at the stud, she will be scanned again at 42-45 days to confirm the pregnancy. If no feotus is found at the 16 day scan she will be represented to the stallion if/when she recycles. Costs associated with the scans or uterine health are the mare owner's responsibility.

Apart from uterine health issues of a minor nature arising from scans, mare care described above will be discussed with you prior to any action being taken. You will be responsible for any costs and invoiced accordingly.

FOAL GUARANTEE

Live foal guarantee covers a foal that is born dead or, though born alive, does not stand or suckle and dies within 24 hours of birth (Vet certificate required). The guarantee excludes the handling fee or associated agistment/vet costs (see above) for the particular season this mare or a replacement mare is presented for re-service.

VETERINARY ASSISTANCE

While every attempt will be made to keep you informed of your mare's condition and your advice sought at all times, a vet will be called where this is considered necessary. I use the Canberra Vet Hospital but will contact your own vet on your advice. All veterinary costs, including the preg-test fee, are your responsibility and you will be invoiced accordingly.

VISITING KERRANNA

You are most welcome to inspect your mare at any time, but please advise me that you will be coming. If I am not there the front gate is locked. The block is 1864 Barton Highway, approximately 8km from Hall, to the right on the Murrumbateman side of Briarwood Lane. A bus shelter is visible before the turn (coming from Canberra) on the brow of the hill on the right side of the road. If you get to Kaveney's Road you have gone too far.  Email me for a 'mud map'.
